The HP StorageWorks 1500 cs Modular Smart Array is a 2Gb Fibre Channel SAN attached 2U controller shelf that connects to both enterprise-class SCSI and Serial ATA (SATA) disk enclosures. HP recommends SCSI drives for intensive heavy I/O requirements while SATA drives should only be used in archived, reference, or near on-line disk-to-disk backup configurations. This combination provides customers with a low cost, high capacity storage solution. The MSA1500 cs with up-to-eight attached SATA enclosures can provide the customer with up to 48 TB (96 - 500 GB SATA disk drives) of native capacity. If the business requires SCSI reliability then attach up-to-four SCSI enclosures for a raw capacity of 16.8 TB (using 56 - 300 GB SCSI disks). The system supports mixing SCSI and SATA enclosures.
